SHOWROOM
For this ‘performance installation’ -which has been exhibited in a few different cities-visitors are invited to donate objects or materials into a 1 foot square opening in a 6’x6’ cube centered in the gallery. Inside the cube is a studio of sorts with tools, electricity, assorted hardware and adhesives. Throughout the exhibition I create composite sculptures out of donated material in the spirit of the DIY culture of rural communities. These sculptures when finished are passed out of the “output” hole (also 1 foot square). Viewers can then place the work on the empty shelves provided or the floor. On the last day of the show, people can purchase a sculpture of their choice by donating two dollars. The sculpture was replaced with a card that they had written a description of the sculpture on. The money is donated to the gallery or a local cause.Lumber, door skin, hardware, 2 spy holes. 2007, 6'x6'x6'. Credit: many images taken by Cindy Baker.
